Communication from Joe Zoltowski of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture to participating governmental agencies concerning the parameters of the 2008 Gypsy Moth Suppression Program

Hi Folks!  Just a reminder that we will only be offering single applications of Btk on this year's program due to the overwhelming size of the program (110,460 acres), mass aprticipation rate, limited window of treatment(Month of May) and lack of  aircraft and pilots.  Heard form the USDA Forest Service about funding, based on the amount they appropriated to New Jersey only a maximum of 23% of the aerial costs will be reimbursed this season.

Also after consultation with the NJDEP over the use of Dimilin (in the 24 municipalities requesting such treatments if available) during Janaury-early February.  It was determined by DEP that a waiver for it's use would be denied. "After a number of discussions with the Department of Environmental Protection, the DEP determined that current circumstances do not outweigh the risks associated with aerial spraying of Dimilin in suburban neighborhoods. After any spray event, dimilin residues and breakdown products may remain on surfaces that adults, children, pets and non-targeted beneficial insects could possibly come into contact with. The Departments will continue to treat infested residential and park areas with Bacillus thuringiensis or "Bt", which is a currently approved biological agent, while recognizing that Bt may not afford the full level of protection that communities desire. This decision does not affect the aerial use of dimilin in forested tracts which are managed for agricultural purposes, or the application of dimilin through ground-based equipment."

List covering costs of single application of Btk and associated 23% reimbursements is attached FYI.  Remember to use the revised starting dates and notification revision e-mailed to you after the regional meeting.  If you have not received them let me know and wil resend.  Any questions contact me at 609-292-5442.  Thanks Joe Zoltowski / NJDA
